Early Learning - Bairnsdale

elc_bairnsdaleThe Early Learning Centre (ELC) Program is an excellent beginning for young children as they embark on their journey through school and life. The Early Learning Program is tailored to meet the needs of each age group and ensures that your child’s first schooling experience is a positive and happy one. There are currently two ELC classes; Reception (for children aged 3/ 4) and Pre-Prep (for children aged 4/5).

elc_bairnsdale_2The Bairnsdale Campus ELC philosophy is based around creating a caring and creative learning environment that challenges and extends your child in these vital years of intellectual, social, spiritual and physical growth. By providing a rich learning environment, the children are encouraged to become confident thinkers and problem solvers. They are immersed in an environment which provides plenty of early literacy and numeracy experiences with a particular emphasis on speaking and listening. Children in the Pre-Prep group participate in Specialist classes for Music and Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) in the Junior School with Specialist staff working with the ELC staff to promote an appropriate program for each individual child.

While the Early Learning Centre has its own safe enclosed area within the Bairnsdale Campus of Gippsland Grammar, the children are able to see and interact with the older children and become very comfortable with the idea of being a part of the whole school from an early age. At the conclusion of our Early Learning Centre Program we promote and support children and families in the transition to school, building strong and trusting relationships in our Prep Transition Program.

Parents are encouraged to be in regular communication with the ELC Teachers to ensure they are aware of the goals the child is working towards and are provided with ideas to support this learning at home. Through participation in the ELC curriculum, parents and teachers work together to achieve shared outcomes for all children. Parents are most-welcomed members of our ELC community.

Allocation of Early Learning Centre places

Priority will be given to children who have siblings already attending Years Prep to 6 at the St Anne’s Campus of Gippsland Grammar. Places will then be allocated to children who are already enrolled at Gippsland Grammar for Prep in a future year and have paid the Prep Holding fee; then by date of receipt of Early Learning Centre application.
