International Gap Year Rowing Coaching Opportunity
Gippsland Grammar is an Anglican co-educational Independent school in regional Victoria, Australia. Our well established School Rowing program has enjoyed great success with regular appearances and medal success at major Victorian State Championships and Australian National Championships.
We are seeking three, final year, University students (undergraduate or postgraduate) to add significant value to the School’s Rowing program as part of a graduate gap year opportunity available under a Temporary Activity Visa. We are interested to hear from individuals who believe they can function as part of a coaching team to add significant value to the Rowing program, beyond their skills on the water as a coach.
Degree subject, strengths and interests will be taken into consideration when allocating an area of responsibility and a crew or squad. The secondary duties will be allocated based on area of expertise.
The School seeks expressions of interest from individuals that hold:
- A willingness to be involved in the life of Rowing in an Australian school
- University level education, ideally in a sports related field but not essential
- An ability to engage and maintain professional relationships with members of the School community.
- Experience in sculling or coxing
- Experience in coaching in a Rowing program (desirable but not essential)
- A team work ethic and excellent organisational skills
- Eligibility to obtain a Temporary Activity Visa
Those appointed will be required at the School from mid to late July until Friday 30 March 2018. This opportunity is available through a Temporary Activity Visa (sub class 408 Special Program category), under which Gippsland Grammar sponsors visa applicants. The visa application is the responsibility of the appointee and the visa must be obtained prior to entering Australia. This visa class is not available to anyone who has previously travelled to Australia on a working holiday or working visa. Under this visa individuals are deemed to be unpaid volunteer, therefore Gippsland Grammar provides a small living allowance and accommodation which includes internet and utility bills.
Gippsland Grammar is committed to providing a child safe environment. Volunteers at the school must hold a current Working With Children check, this may be applied for upon arrival in Australia.
Interviews will be held via Skype or telephone shortly thereafter. Final offers will be made by mid-June to allow at least one month to secure a visa and flights. Appointees will be financially responsible for visa charges, flights and travel insurance.
